Gilmer man gets life in prison for more than 200 home buglaries

A Gilmer man pleaded guilty Thursday and was sentenced by a judge to life in prison for committing dozens of home burglaries in Upshur and surrounding counties during the past two years, Upshur County District Attorney Billy Byrd said Friday morning.

Guy Edward Brannon, 50, confessed to more than 80 home burglaries in Upshur County, Byrd said. Sheriff's investigators found that Brannon also committed burglaries in Gregg, Rusk, Marion, Cass, Camp, Harrison, Smith, Wood and Van Zandt counties, Byrd said. The crimes in all counties totaled more than 200 burglaries.
